Apartment Review
Great Location! No problems...

I have very little to no qualms with this place. The apartment is fairly small, but living on my own, it is pretty much all I need. The price is good for the neighborhood. When I was first looking for a place around here, I checked out an apartment that is literally 5 buildings down from where La Jolla is, and the person renting it out wanted $75 more a month, and the place was smaller than what I have here. I haven't had much experience with the maintenance staff, which is probably a good thing, meaning that the place isn't falling apart. The two times that I did have issues, one of the times it was fixed within 24 hours, and the other time it was something fairly simple, and the guy actually stayed on the phone with me for about 20 minutes and walked me through how to fix it myself so that he didn't have to waste his time sending someone out here, nor my time waiting for someone to get here. One off street parking spot is included in my rent, and I guess one of my very few problems would be that last winter they didn't shovel out any of the parking spots nor a path to the front door or in the courtyard. It would have been extremely nice for them to have had someone with a plow come by and clear out the parking spaces after that huge snowstorm that we had last year, as opposed to my neighbor and I spending 2 1/2 hours shoveling a space barely wide enough to fit both of our cars in, out of about 4 feet of snow. But it just snowed quite a bit here yesterday, and I was happy to come home after work at 11:30pm and find all of what I just mentioned shoveled and de-iced, so hopefully they keep up with that trend this winter. It is a secured access building, so no one can get in without a key, and I very rarely see any unsavory types even around the outside of the building at all. I guess my only other qualm would be that the cost of gas is shared with everyone in the building. Added to my rent every month is my portion of the entire building's heating bill which is divided among the tenants. This seems a little unfair, and maybe even a bit communistic, considering that whenever I was cold growing up, my parents told me to go put another sweatshirt on. So I maybe used my heat 4-5 times last winter and still had to pay quite a bit in those months. One month I remember it being close to $80 added to my rent! That's divided up evenly with everyone?? Keep in mind that there are some two bedroom places in this building that obviously take more gas to heat. I'm not entirely sure how they dived it up, if the two bedrooms pay more or not, but either way, I would rather be responsible for what I use only. It also aggravates me because when I get home from work and walk by my neighbors window every night, he has it open when it's 10 degrees outside. If he likes to do that and then run the heat, that's his prerogative, but again, I don't feel that I should have to pay for that. Anyway, I would highly recommend this place. Unfortunately, depending on how the heat thing goes this winter, I may be moving out. I really would like to stay in this place, but not as badly as I really do not want to have to put up with another winter of paying my neighbors gas bill. So we'll see how it goes.
