My Review on Highland Square Apartments at 8555 E Evans Av in Denver, Colorado 04Nov09 Wed. I moved here in September 2007 and I am a current resident of Highland Square (Highland Crossing Apartments...Located on the same property/same owners...) in Denver, Colorado. My sister was the first person to live in one of the units on the Square side (the same side I live on now) when the building opened up about 11 years ago. Before I moved here, I worked with a lady who lived on the Crossing side for 6 months then moved. I am a current tenant and far what I've seen is a lot of untidy tenants who send their children out to do things like take out the trash...ok kids have chores and so do mine but these are dumpsters not trash cans...small kids miss the entire opening of the dumpster because the trash bag they have is too heavy and/or the dumpster is too tall vs. a trash can...This causes the rodent population to be abundant and in my apartment. I have gotten little to no help at all from the property managers. No mouse traps are issued to tenants who ask for them. Though the maintenance crew picks up the obvious trash around the dumpsites and throughout the grounds, most of the tenants display a trifled quality by sitting trash outside their front doors over night/over the week(end). Not including how they keep house inside… The office crew tends not to answer their phones on any day. The office crew has also managed to never return my phone calls in 2 years, yet I still continue to call if I have an issue. The office door is always locked and no one answers the door bell nor a knock at the door. In short, issues really don’t get taken care of in a timely manner. Hence, in 1 12-unit building, 6 families moved in 1 day. Although most of the problems I’ve seen in 2 years are caused by the tenants, management is obviously money hungry letting whomever move in then taking cover in their hiding places until rent day or the office will service long enough to put a notice on a tenants door calculating how much a tenant owes. Oh yes, they don’t fix much until a tenant moves so they can charge or take a tenants deposit… Some of the tenants have woken up to broken car windows from the older children outside throwing rocks. Some of the teens were defecating in the laundry room…having sex in the hallways or in the bushes…things like that. These things take place while parents are sometimes home, and while the apartment managers and maintenance crews are on the property as well. The police do drive through our property often and still we have some activities going on in plain sight. Parents are not cleaning up the play ground areas after they send their children outside with a snack. ETC… With any luck at all, I will be moving soon, also. There are Section 8 clients on this property as well as tenants who pay full rent as if that matters. Nasty is nasty is nasty and that can be anywhere unfortunately but nonetheless, I'm looking for a way out.
